On the eve of the annual dragon-fighting contest, a dead creature is discovered at the tournament grounds.

Katya Platonova, responsible for organizing the event, goes to investigate. It turns out that during the dragon’s lifetime, a crystal was carved out of it—a source of its magical power that mages use for spells.
