Pioneer's Honor! Part 3

1984 year. Again.

Citizens of the USSR are still building communism, with the азарт of hunters “getting” scarce goods. And they don’t suspect the sad turns that soon await both them and the country. My father is still alive and teaching at school. Past me has turned seven years old. And he (not I) will soon go to first grade.

This boy doesn’t know that life has prepared surprises for him. But surprises come in different forms. I’m a big surprise. For some—a pleasant one. And for others—my return to 1984 promises nothing good.

Will I change the future I remembered? After all, I’m only ten years old in the present. I’m a pioneer again, getting ready to move into fourth grade. In the Soviet Union, a ten-year-old boy has very limited ability to influence the fates of people and the whole country. Maybe that’s why fate not only granted me a “second chance,” but also gave me a gift.

Or did it give me a curse? I’ll use that gift—and make it someone else’s curse.
