Paper Tiger (I. – "Matter"). Volume 1

Meet Leid Lewstone — the owner of a general store on the island of New Bangor. By day he measures out rice, tea, and cinnamon, and in the evenings he sits with friends over beer, grumbling about the willful automaton and the bustle of life on the threshold of the twentieth century.

But New Bangor is not just a British colony in Polynesia—only a facade. This island is lost in time and space, and serves as amusement for a mad god named Leviathan. Here, creatures from Polynesian legends, medieval tales, and the most dreadful nightmares come together, and ordinary logic does not work. An ordinary person wouldn’t last a year here without losing their mind, yet Leid has lived on the island for twenty-five years.

When the trading day ends, he locks up the shop and… picks up a revolver and strange amulets. He is a prisoner of New Bangor, but not its prey— a fighter: for a quarter of a century he has been waging a hopeless war against the island and its merciless master. And Leid firmly knows: soon he will leave New Bangor. Or die.
