The culmination of the third book trilogy by A. N. Tolstoy “The Road to Calvary,” titled “A Gloomy Morning,” is the reunion of the loving couples Dasha and Ivan Ilyich Telegin, and Katya and Vadim Petrovich Roshchin. Having traveled a long, painful path of overcoming and searching for themselves in a new, still not fully understood Russia, they find happiness in being needed, in realizing their unity with the Motherland and the people—an understanding that ultimately leads them to grasp the meaning of life.
