In the second half of the 80s, queues, co-ops, and new openness transform the country, affecting the childhood of five Moscow kids. They experience first love, build friendships, and stand up to adults as they learn to live in a changing era. The story takes place in Moscow, where five children from the South-West district and their parents, working in various fields, face change. The children attend music schools, experience crushes and illnesses, rebel and lose friends, while the usual order begins to shift. They have to create a new reality. Maria Danilova’s novel is a nostalgic coming-of-age story set during perestroika, telling of awakening, hope, and the discovery of freedom.
