"The Whirlwinds of Change" is a novel by Aleksandr Lapin, the fourth book in the cycle “Russian Cross.” Genre: modern Russian literature. The novel traces the fate of four school friends and their loved ones, who were destined to witness and take part in epoch-making events unfolding in our country at the turn of two centuries. We first meet the novel’s heroes at the end of the 1970s. In “The Whirlwinds of Change,” the grown-up, matured heroes enter together with the country into the beginning of the 1990s.
Each of them has their own fate—and together it is the fate of a generation. The book includes all the attributes of that time: the putsch, the collapse of the USSR, the commercialization of state enterprises, emigration, a total shortage, the nascent oligarchy, and gang conflicts. It was a time when the whirlwinds of change touched everyone.
