The famous work of the outstanding Russian historian Sergey Mikhailovich Solovyov (1820–1879) is rightly considered one of the principal achievements of Russian historical scholarship in the 19th century. Solovyov is “the first among equals” among the constellation of the greatest Russian historians, including N. Karamzin, V. Klyuchevsky, N. Kostomarov, A. Presnyakov, T. Granovsky, S. Platonov, and many others.
The twenty-third volume of the large-scale 29-volume work is devoted to continuing the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and covers the events of 1749–1755.
