“Good Wishes” is a novel by Alexander Lapin, the third book of the “Russian Cross” cycle. Genre: contemporary Russian literature. The “Russian Cross” cycle is a saga about a generation. A personal diary covering a large span of the late 20th to early 21st century reveals the twists and turns of the destinies of four school friends. For the first time, the author introduces the main characters to the reader in the book “Lost Paradise”—a lyrical account of schoolboy youth. The second novel of the saga, “Untroubled Generation,” is about growing up, happy student years, military service, first difficult decisions, and the responsibility that comes with them. In the third book—“Good Wishes”—the inner development of the heroes unfolds against the backdrop of historical events in which they become participants or witnesses: nationalist uprisings in the allied republics, the war in Afghanistan, the Spitak earthquake… “Each has their own truth” is the name of one of the parts of the novel. Indeed, each hero will defend their own truth: a journalist has one, a nationalist another, a KGB officer a third, while the fourth seeks it in unity with nature. Each of them is guided by the most kindhearted intentions, but as everyone knows, sincerity of thoughts is not always a guarantee of achieving the intended result.
