Garrett’s adventures are a series of Glen Cook books about the private detective Garrett. The novels are written in the noir style, with elements of adventure and detective fiction, as well as plenty of dialogue-based humor. Garrett’s adventures take place in an original fantasy world, mostly in the city native to him—Tanfair, which lies in the kingdom of Carenta. The described kingdoms are populated by elves, vampires, centaurs, trolls, gods, wizards, sorcerers, and many other beings. The magic of this world works in a distinctive way: when creating spells, you must spend silver—so all politics of the powerful consists of intrigue and the struggle over sources of replenishing the treasury with silver.

Garrett’s new case is to find and return the abducted son of the Lady of Storms, Ravever Sticks—preferably before her return. But the matter turns out to be more tangled than it seemed, and soon those connected to it begin to die…
