Promised Lands

The popular writer Jean-Michel Hénassia gained fame for novels such as “The Club of Unrepentant Optimists,” “The Amazing Life of Ernesto Che,” and “Cheat Death.” His first novel was acclaimed by critics as a magnificent work, earning the author the Goncourt Prize. In recent years he worked on a continuation of his first novel, the idea for which came to him in Moscow.

The plot unfolds in the 1960s in Paris. The main character, Michel Marini, is already studying at university and is living through the romantic period of his life, full of hope and love. He sets off on travels through Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Israel, and Russia in search of his ideals and dreams. In this continuation of “The Club of Unrepentant Optimists,” the characters seek their promised land and strive to fulfill their dreams.
