The second audiobook in the “MAMMOTHS” series tells how brave special agents of the Russian Empire of the late nineteenth century, using a time machine, try to stop the relic race of the “alvs” or “tvergs” from changing history (a “Time Patrol” in Bushkov’s style).
The adventures unfold in the best traditions of Hamilton and Burroughs. Here you have an aging empire with energy weapons and flying boats; mysterious abandoned “tverg” cities full of treasures and guarded by semi-magical sentries; a beautiful “princess” with snake-like eyes, a descendant of aliens who arrived from Mars—naturally, she becomes the love interest of the main character; bumbling would-be conspirators incited by cunning “tvergs,” suffering from verbal diarrhea; vicious wild centaurs that systematically wipe out good telepathic mammoths; and finally, the mammoths themselves, marching in herds into parallel worlds, sensing an all-universe catastrophe.
