Fury

A novel that successfully balances a tense detective thriller—centered on a murder—, a black comedy, philosophical reflection, and a sharp, socially relevant, precise, and ironic depiction of life in Earth’s main city. Professor Malik Solanka, a specialist in the theory of ideas and a researcher into the issue of the state’s responsibility to citizens, in the late eighties leaves his job at Cambridge’s Royal College and goes to work for the BBC, where he hosts a popular-science program on the history of philosophy in the company of big-brained puppet dolls. Soon he becomes rich and famous. But eventually even that pastime starts to bore him. Malik makes a desperate choice: he leaves his family and goes to the other side of the ocean. This is how the fifty-year-old Solanka ends up in New York at the beginning of a new XXI century—a city that lives in lavish, refined, and carefree excess. But gradually Malik notices that everything in this colorful life is held together by fury—fury that begins to take root even in his heart.
