Polina Gromova, a lifelong Muscovite, a proper girl and an economist at the Moscow office of the Ovchinnikov meatpacking plant. After her parents die, she meets a young and promising Anton from Ulyanovsk, but a few years into their life together she suddenly finds out she has a fatal illness. The doctor says she has at most one year left. Her common-law husband comforts her as he can and—quietly—convinces her to rewrite her Moscow apartment onto his name. The girl almost agrees until she accidentally learns that Anton isn’t only cheating on her—he’s also planning to move into this apartment with his mistress. After a night of bitter tears, a plan for cruel revenge forms in Polina’s head: she’ll strike the sorest spot, seduce, and marry the owner of the meatpacking plant where both of them work, because businessman Ovchinnikov is Anton’s idol. But who could have guessed how truly grand—and ruthless—the scheme of Anton the handsome actually was?
