Nothing in the city of Quen-Mab is what it seems. This also applies to Elizabeth Bickwin herself—an outcast, a spy, and an agent of the Inquisition. Somehow, in a way that defies understanding, she gets pulled into a conflict between the inquisitors Gregor Eisenhorn and Gideon Ravenor. Once they were friends, but now they’re at odds—though both of them hunt the same mysterious and extremely dangerous enemy. Hounded by enemies of the human race and by the Inquisition, drawn into a strange game whose rules she doesn’t know, Bickwin must unravel the knot of secrets from her past in order to survive the coming battle. She will be helped by different allies, but in Quen-Mab the line separating friends from enemies is extremely thin.
