In 1967, the science-fiction novel “Riders from Nowhere,” created by Alexander and Sergei Abramov (father and son), was published in the Moscow magazine “Smena.” The book caused a sensation among readers of that time. The plot follows a Soviet expedition in the Arctic, where mysterious forces carve gigantic blocks out of the ice and transport them in an unknown direction. Strange pink clouds appear in the sky over Earth, ignoring physical laws. People start encountering mysterious doubles that appear and disappear, leaving a trail. These copies populate ghost cities, where they live their own lives and create their own history. An alien intelligence studies humankind, but its intentions remain a mystery.
