After the defeat of the Whites, Андрей Киреев moves to France. Life for an immigrant is bitter, but the former military pilot gradually grows accustomed to peaceful life, settles down, and seems to be living well. And his years are already not young. But the moment a civil war breaks out in Spain, Андрей immediately rushes into a new adventure—he goes as a volunteer into the Republican army. There his familiar enemy is the Germans from the “Condor” Legion. But even here fate finds time to joke: after being wounded in battle, the pilot comes to himself on a Soviet passenger ship heading to Odessa. Knowing that soon the Great Patriotic War will begin, Киреев makes the final choice: he stays on his homeland to help it deal with the fascist invasion. Can even the most experienced air fighter, a veteran of several wars, help the Red Army Air Forces win the battle for the sky over the famed Luftwaffe aces?
