Description
"Long ago, at the end of the last millennium, I crossed a threshold—life-changing, fateful: I left for another country, as if, like Robinson Crusoe, I ended up on an island of a different life. And I began to settle it—harshly, bravely, and desperately; sometimes—confusedly. The island was called Israel. ... Life around me was something wild: funny and exhausting, heroic and delightful all at once; explaining it—somehow, making it understandable to outsiders—seemed completely impossible. You could only describe it meticulously, consistently, step by step—ridiculous and frightening. Around me swirled some Homeric reality: Russian radio, Russian newspapers, small lousy Russian business. Familiar acquaintances—inveterate swindlers. That was one side.

On the other side, a new life with its realities, faces, and interests pressed in on us and spun us around like a chip in a whirlpool. With its laws and moral rules, with its army and police, with its saints and righteous people, with its bandits and politicians. With its endless memory of six million tortured… I wrote all of this life into my first novel “Here Comes the Messiah!..”. And while I wrote it (and even now, when—thirty years later—I’m reading it aloud), I lived through all my then-fears, delight, and laughter again—my sadness, my youth. And love, of course. Because—what is all our life without love?" (Dina Rubina)

On the site, “Here Comes the Messiah!..” by Dina Rubina already exists—made by her about 20 years ago. This is a different recording.
