Present day. A small town on the border with Ukraine. Nearby there is a military unit with a secret storage facility. School friends’ lives were scattered by destiny. Oleg Meshkov became a police major, his brother Andrey became a businessman, and Mishka Shtanko turned into a thief—contraband runner. On the eve of the special military operation (SVO), Meshkov puts Shtanko behind bars and quarrels with his brother; as a result, his wife and son die. Everyone is to blame for what happened.
August 2023. Ukrainian intelligence sends saboteurs into the border zone and builds a spy network led by an unknown Heir. Residents leave the shelled area. The city is reinforced by a Росгвардія (Rosgvardiya) unit led by Major Bakhtin. At the military unit commander’s level, Colonel Artemov has strange dealings with his wife and a pregnant prostitute.
Meshkov tries to identify the Heir. Everyone is under suspicion: colleagues, an old friend, his brother, and even the colonel.
Daily danger sharpens the heroes’ senses. Each of them begins new romantic relationships. War tears off masks and tests everyone for courage and cowardice, love and betrayal. War will leave no one unchanged.
