Detective Lena Kroshina begins investigating a new case involving the murder of three young girls. Their bodies were found on the benches outside movie theaters, and beside them were players playing the same melody from one of them. The girls looked alike and were dressed the same way. The question arises: what is the connection between these murders and Lena’s former men—Nikita Koltsov, a photographer, and Pavel Golitsyn, a writer—whose new novel tells of a detective very much like Lena Kroshina and a similar case? Perhaps the answers lie in Kroshina’s own past.
