“The Beginning of the Path” is the second—though by no means the final—part of the adventures of the clever and resourceful boy from Kamchatka, Leha Kostrov.

As you remember, Leha’s body and mind were taken over by… himself, only 50 years older. He made use of all the life experience and knowledge he had gained, all the information about past events—so that, as a result, the ninth-grader from a distant northern settlement has everything one could dream of. A wonderful arsenal of firearms—from rifles to nagans. A luxurious arsenal of photo equipment—from “Leica” to “Nikon.” A complete, perfectly assembled set of tools for a hacker. Two cars. A house in a southern resort. Dozens of thousands of Soviet rubles in his account, some in bonds, and a lot of gold in chervonets and jewelry. A real millionaire! On top of that, not so petty police officials consult with him, and criminal kings befriend him; seasoned crooks share knowledge, and honest hard workers share theirs.

But the boy grows up, and real people fall in love, quarrel, set each other up, and come to each other’s rescue. Everything is real—everything is believable, even the snow crunches underfoot!
