The rulers of the world, calling themselves the “World Council,” strike back—now not only Mexico but the entire world is engulfed in civil war, with many fronts and only isolated pockets of calm.
The global revolution drowns in blood: the weapons of the 20th century against the network-centric armies of the future; living soldiers against self-learning and self-replicating swarms of drone bots… Hybrid war is no longer wars between states, but between supranational structures and corporations on land, in cities, and in space. Terrorists, hackers, extremists of every kind, radicals and reactionaries, mercenaries and fanatics, as well as ordinary members of the plankton who for many years were forced to fight only in virtual reality—have stepped onto the long-awaited path of real war. The last war, determining what the new world will look like. Or the first war of a completely new kind.
And everyone, on opposite sides of the barricades, is trying to survive this maelstrom, postponing their personal plans for later—for the future. But what will that future be?
