A ten-year-old daughter has been kidnapped from the British MP and Conservative Party activist Evelyn Bowen. Afraid that the exposure of certain secrets from her past could ruin her career, Evelyn refuses to report the disappearance to the police. The only thing she agrees to is to seek help from a private person, an expert-criminalist Simon St. James. Simon, who has never handled detective work independently, is ready to refuse. But his wife persuades him to take the case.
