Description

The 14th century. Great Novgorod. Young men Nosok and Stoyan dream of becoming ушкуйники. But to do so, they need to arm themselves at their own expense—and there’s no money. At the fair, the friends witness a winter amusement: the fight of a bear with a man. Stoyan interferes in the struggle and drives the bear onto a spear, saving the fighter. In gratitude, he receives an amulet and money. The boys become members of Luka Varfolomeyev’s detachment and set out on a great campaign to the north. But even in their boldest dreams they couldn’t imagine what unprecedented, dangerous, and mysterious adventures awaited them in the lands of the Sveves and the Lithuanians!
