In a post-apocalyptic future world where Tally lives, every teenager who reaches sixteen undergoes plastic surgery to turn them into dazzling beauties. Tally doesn’t have long left: in a couple of weeks, the disgusting ugly girl will be transformed into a beauty—and everything will change completely. After all, the only task of beauties in this high-tech paradise is to have fun and enjoy life.

But not all residents of Ugliesville want to become beautiful. And when Tally’s new friend Shay runs away into the Smoke—a hideout for rebels—the world of beauties opens up for Tally in a new way, and it is far from as flawless as everyone has been taught to believe. Representatives of the authorities present Tally with an impossible condition: either she finds Shay and turns her in, or Tally will never become a beauty. Her decision determines her future, which may change forever…
