A world in which Vikings coexisted for decades with the tribes of the New World collapses in an instant because of a prophecy. Only a few who survive will have to flee to the edge of the earth—where monsters live, while the ousla hunt them: assassins of the Calnian Empire strengthened by its magic.
Once the Vikings crossed the sea and settled near the Goachiki tribe, who believed the foreigners were marked by the gods. This went on for many years until the ruler of the Calnian Empire—uniting several major tribes—received a vision: fair-skinned outsiders will bring ruin to everything around them. The fragile world that had held for decades falls apart in a single day.
But even among the Vikings there is a prophet of their own: he predicts the imminent death of everyone who doesn’t go “west of the west”—to the mysterious Meadows. A group of survivors sets off on a final march toward the unknown lands of strange beasts and real monsters. They are hunted by ousla— the empire’s best blades, altered by sorcery and therefore nearly invulnerable. But neither the fugitives nor their pursuers yet understand: ahead of them awaits something far worse, and there will be no mercy for anyone.
