The Purloined Letter

The Purloined Letter is a short story by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1844.
The story is the third of three Poe tales about the fictional detective Auguste Dupin, following “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” and “The Mystery of Marie Rogêt.” All three stories have been recognized as the most important works of the emerging detective genre.
