The events on the island are already behind them; life has returned to its dull routine, and our hero and narrator, Iii, is choosing what to eat for lunch in the university cafeteria. But then his classmate—someone whose name and face he, of course, doesn’t remember—sits down next to him. Who knew that from this unremarkable episode in the plot would emerge: an elusive serial killer with a tattoo on half his face, an unexpected murder, the world’s most familiar—by now—contract killer, and, of course, the police. Because of all these piling troubles, our hero will once again have to use his unconventional way of looking at things and sort out the problems that have arisen.
