In 1983, it marked 200 years since the blessed repose of the great light of the Russian Church—Saint Tikhon, Bishop of Voronezh and Yelets.
The literary and theological legacy of Saint Tikhon Zadonsky is extensive and, in terms of its themes, multifaceted. The saint believed that the main purpose of human life on earth is the salvation of the soul. The idea of salvation runs like a red thread through all his works. A Christian will find answers to many questions that arise on the path to eternity. The letters of the holy father included in the collection of his works almost always end with the words: “Save yourself!”, “Save yourself in the Lord!”, “Save yourself in Christ Jesus!” Salvation—above all—was what he wanted for everyone.
