Theory of Color is a book by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, covering his views on the nature of color and issues related to color perception. In his book, Goethe provides general information on how color is perceived under different circumstances, and includes some observations by Isaac Newton. Goethe’s interest was directed less toward analyzing the phenomenon of color and more toward the specifics of how it is perceived. In the end, philosophers came to understand the difference between the optical spectrum studied by Newton and the human-perception phenomenon of color as described by Goethe.
