In Moscow, in a closed apartment, Alexey Streltzov is found murdered; he was preparing a report on this movement for the Ministry of Justice. His friend, the young judicial investigator Ivan Tregubov, is assigned to handle the investigation. The traces of the crime lead to North America, where two bounty hunters are hot on the heels of a girl who robbed a bank in Santa Fe. The events become closely intertwined.
