The “Q” Department of the Copenhagen police has been tasked with investigating a very unusual case. Scotland Yard has sent Danish detectives a small bottle washed ashore by the sea on a deserted beach: inside they found a decayed message written in Danish, made with blood. The text was poorly preserved—time and seawater did their work. After starting the decryption, detective Carl Mørk, together with his assistants, established that the message contained a call for help. Is this childish prank or the last hope of rescue? Carl Mørk and his colleagues try to use every available opportunity to solve this and other monstrous crimes by a serial killer who, for many years, managed to evade justice.
