The third part of the Neapolitan quartet—already dubbed "the best literary epic of modern times"—takes place in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. The story of the friendship between Lenù Greco and Lila Cerullo continues against a turbulent historical backdrop: student protests, street clashes, a growing union movement… After separating from her husband, Lila moved with her little son to a district of new developments and works at a sausage factory. Lenù left Naples, finished an elite college, published a book, and is preparing to marry and become part of an influential family. Life drives them farther and farther apart: they become merely voices at the other end of the line. Will their relationship stand up to the test of change?
