Tanya Grotter and the Boots of the Centaur

Tanya Grottеr, the Tomb-Duchess (Grоbynya), Van’ka Valyalkin, Gunya Glomov, Yagun, and Shurasik end up in a parallel world. The forests of this eerie world are inhabited by undead beings, and the mountains and dungeons are filled with spirits. Four elements rule here: fire, water, air, and earth, and all the mages living in this world are subject to them. No one can use magic of a different element than the one that gives them power. Invisible rule is held by the Stikhariy—an incorporeal creature whose forces are dozens of times stronger than those of an ordinary sorcerer. Once, the Stikhariy was brought here by the magic of Feofil Grottеr. Long ago, Tanya’s ancestor used the Stikhariy’s help; but having considered the price too high, he broke the contract and, without paying, cleverly moved the Stikhariy into a parallel world.

To leave it and return to their own dimension, the Stikhariy must be watered with the runes from its cup with Feofil Grottеr’s blood—which now runs only in the veins of Tanya Grottеr…
