Tank Crewman

Pavel Starodub was drafted into tank troops even at the very beginning of the war, and already in 1943 he became the commander of a tank. Luck has always been on his side. Luck favored him in the battle near Prokhorovka, when Soviet tanks launched a suicidal frontal assault against the prepared defenses of the enemy. Pavel managed to get out of the burning tank, throw off the smoldering clothes, and while half-unconscious, put on a jacket taken from a dead German. At night, German medics carried him off the battlefield, mistaking him for one of their own.
In a German hospital, Pavel also manages not to give himself away by citing a severe concussion—after all, he was a native of the Volga region Germans and knows German almost like his native tongue.
So he ends up serving in the “Panzerwaffe,” the German tank forces. Now his task is to get to the front line, cross the line of the front, and assist Soviet intelligence.
