A Mystery Shrouded in Darkness

The old woman I worked for as a companion lied at every step. What in her stories was false and what was true, I could only guess.
But after spending a lot of time, I managed to find out: the last place of her service was a dramatic theater—and I sighed with relief. If the old woman hadn’t been an actress, humanity would have lost much, because she was an actress by nature, and she could easily portray anything. For example, a dying woman.
And now, as she was getting ready to die once again, she demanded that I find her beloved grandson Andryushenka. They’d quarreled five years ago and since then they hadn’t seen each other.
The moment I got involved in this story, I understood: someone really doesn’t want the question to arise again—where did the grandson go? He’s suspected of murder… Probably for that reason the old woman avoids the police, and leaves the search for her grandson to me. The assignment turned out to be: “go look for him there, I don’t know where.”
And the further I walked, the scarier it became…
