To keep the mechanism of the social “machine” turning without squeaking, you need to get rid of the garbage that gets inside it in time. Before the authorities arises the question: are those who cannot be called full members of society—incurably ill and homeless children, disabled people, lonely pensioners—really “garbage” for the restored Empire? Should they be removed from the mechanism in the name of progress and the good of socially full citizens?..
But not all residents agree with the authorities’ opinion. Vladislav Krapivin’s novel “The Green Ampoule” tells about their struggle against the monstrous project. This volume also includes the story “The String and the Chandelier,” the autobiographical “Krapivin’s Calendar,” and the author’s comments on all the books published in this collection.
