“There are three things that wise people fear: the sea in a storm, night without the moon, and the anger of a quiet man.”
Kvothe is forced to leave the University and seek his luck abroad. Drift-floating, poor and lonely, he heads to Vintas, where he quickly gets pulled into political intrigue within the refined high society. Trying to flatter a powerful nobleman, Kvothe uncovers an attempt at murder, clashes with a competing arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries in a mad attempt to figure out who (or what) is lying in wait for travelers on the road of the King.
Kvothe seeks answers by trying to learn the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe will face trial by the legendary mercenaries of Adem, defend the honor of the Adem realm, and set out on a journey to the kingdom of the Fae. There he will meet Felurian, a fairy-woman whose charms no man can resist—and none of them ever left alive. Under her protection, Kvothe learns more about true magic and about women.
In the novel “The Wise Man’s Fear,” Kvothe will take his first steps along the road of heroes and discover how complicated life can become when a person becomes a legend in his lifetime.
