Arriving in Kuibyshev for completely different business, Lieutenant General Apollonov—Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the USSR and at the same time the chairman of the sports society “Dynamo”—ends up at a match between Kuibyshev’s “Dynamo” and “Dzerzhinets” from Chelyabinsk. There, two young Dynamo hockey players catch the general’s eye: the goalkeeper Vladimir Tret’yakov and forward Vladimir Fomin. Their play is strikingly different from the clumsy performance of two provincial teams from Group B of the second USSR Canadian hockey championship.
Impressed by their game, the general decides to take these two players to strengthen the Moscow “Dynamo.”
