When Tyler was 12 years old, a mysterious barrier surrounded the Earth. After the appearance of the barrier, all satellites fell from orbit to the ground. The barrier was not absolutely impenetrable. It did not allow the light of stars and the Moon through, although it did allow sunlight; yet the Sun looked somehow strange. Astronomers observed no normal solar activity on the Sun—no sunspots, no solar storms. And the most shocking discovery for Earth’s inhabitants was that behind the barrier, the course of time had changed.
