Contemporary Art: For Those Who Want to Keep Up with Everything

Impressionism, surrealism, avant-gardism, pop art, minimalism… Even if we struggle to define these concepts, works created within one current or another are undoubtedly familiar to us. The term “contemporary art” is usually applied to movements and styles that emerged after World War II. Many of them remain relevant to this day, and some appeared quite recently and reflect the features of today’s society and culture. However, no phenomenon arises out of nothing. Contemporary art was built on foundations laid in the first half of the 20th century—and even in the 19th century. What yesterday was revolutionary or even simply rebellious is now considered classic, exemplary. Who knows which of the directions presented in this book will, in a few decades, define the face of our time? For now, we can only guess… and, of course, study.
