Two people are claiming the same fortune, title, and name. Each insists that he is Sir John Farnley, the baronet and owner of an estate in Kent. The other is a fraud and a pretender. Each tells a different—but very plausible—story. And only one person can recognize the real Sir John. That is Kenneth Marrie, who taught Sir John in his youth. From those times Marrie still has a sample of the fingerprints of the real Farnley. Possessing such proof is extremely dangerous—deadly dangerous. Especially since one of the claimants has effectively warned Marrie: “I smell blood. You will be killed.” The terrifying prediction comes true sooner than expected. Blood is shed—but the victim is not Marrie.
