Moscow in the 1920s. The famous surgeon, Professor Preobrazhensky, decides on a risky experiment: he transplants a human pituitary gland into a homeless dog, Sharik. After the operation, a creature is created that quickly takes on a human appearance and manners, but along with the ability to speak and its ambitions, it also inherits the darkest traits of its donor. In Professor Preobrazhensky’s apartment on Prechistenka, a tragicomic clash unfolds between culture and crudeness, common sense and assertive ignorance.
