In a forest on the outskirts of Vienna, a couple who has come to their suburban house finds a naked, emaciated girl. Her entire back is covered with tattoos based on motifs from Dante’s “Hell.” The police manage to determine that she is Clara, an eleven-year-old who went missing a year ago. But the girl stubbornly refuses to talk about the past twelve months.
Meanwhile, a young employee of the Munich police, Sabina Nemes, begins training for a course for highly gifted young recruits. Her instructor is an experienced Dutch profiler, Marten S. Snijder. The essence of his method is that with the students he works on unsolved crimes. Soon, Sabina, together with Snijder, plunges into investigations of three terrifying cases that only at first glance seem to have nothing in common. And when a connection is traced back to the abduction of that very girl in Vienna, the boundaries between theory and practice finally blur…
