Later-origin stories in the collection “One Thousand and One Nights” reflect life and everyday life in a medieval Arab trading city. As seen in certain topographical details, the action unfolds mainly in the Egyptian capital—Cairo. At the core of these novellas is usually some touching love story complicated by various adventures; the characters involved are, as a rule, from the trading and craft nobility. In style and language, stories of this kind are somewhat simpler than the fantastic tales, but even here there are many poetic quotations, mostly of an erotic nature.
