Over the 35 years of his creative work, Bianki created more than 300 stories, fairy tales, novellas, essays, and articles. All his life he kept diaries and naturalist notes, and he responded to many readers’ letters. His works were published in a total run of over 40 million copies, translated into many languages of the world.
Not long before his death, Bianki wrote in a foreword to one of his books: “I always tried to write my fairy tales and stories in such a way that they would be accessible to adults as well. And now I understood that all my life I was writing for adults who had kept a child inside their souls.”
