The cycle of historical novellas and novels “His Majesty’s Spy” is a historical-and-spy reconstruction of the Patriotic War of 1812. The entire cycle is presented as the diary of Yakov Ivanovich de Sangle, who, as director of the Higher Military Police created by Barclay de Tolly, led Russian military intelligence in 1812 and successfully directed the struggle against Napoleon’s intelligence services. In the first book of the cycle, events are described day by day, devoted to the fight against French agents in the months directly preceding the outbreak of the war; then the first week of hostilities is explained in detail. The setting is Vilna, April–July 1812.
The second book of the historical-police saga “His Majesty’s Spy” covers the period from July to the beginning of September 1812. The secret diary of the director of Russia’s Higher Military Police, Yakov Ivanovich de Sangle, tells of an attempt by French agents on Emperor Alexander Pavlovich in July 1812, as well as the evacuation of the capital on the eve of its capture by Napoleon’s troops.
