“The airplane appeared over the road suddenly. It was flying in some strange way, the way airplanes don’t fly, drawing a wide arc at an altitude no more than twenty meters, left wing leading.
And the airplane itself looked unusual—its paint scheme was barren and empty—but by its silhouette it was not like a swift fighter; rather like a fat, humpbacked mosquito that circles a sleeping tourist, choosing the place to continue the feast. The many-ton carcass moved slowly, ignoring aerodynamic coefficients, lift, and the law of gravity—such a giant couldn’t possibly stay in the air at low altitudes and at ultra-low speeds, and yet it did! But the slowness of the flight was deceptive: the pickup and its pursuers drove along the road at about a hundred kilometers per hour, and the airplane moved parallel to them, as if studying what was happening below…”
