Description
2017. The Soviet Union is preparing to celebrate the Centenary of the Revolution on a grand scale. The public sector of the economy overfulfills the plan, while the private sector raises the quality of goods and services to a level unmatched by Western competitors. Space expeditions explore the Moon and attack Mars, and Soviet medicine and sports fight for the ideal health of the citizens. Education, science, and culture also make a substantial contribution to preparing for this historic date: films are being made, exhibitions held, and collections compiled about the achievements and deeds of the country across the entire hundred-year Soviet period.

Historian Leonid Zimin discovers in the archive encrypted records about one of the key episodes of the Great Patriotic War. As he delves into the material, Zimin realizes that he has been drawn into a strange game involving not only ordinary citizens and government institutions, in particular the KGB. Everyone involved expects Leonid to decrypt the mysterious memoirs and is prepared to use any methods to force him to finish the job.

Zimin suddenly understands that he is about to inadvertently rewrite the official history of the country—but it’s already too late to back out. The historical version set out in the memoirs suddenly finds confirmation in reality.
