Altai, in the past a hero of the colony wars and now a condemned man, arrives on the prison-planet Rhapsody. Life is fickle: just two months ago he was the commander of an assault company. Now Altai awaits execution while in custody. He chose exile to the Polygon instead of an electric chair—and now he must fight other prisoners for implants, armor, and his own life. On Rhapsody, people amount to nothing at all, and death is only a way to raise the Polygon’s ratings. Altai becomes a participant in the most popular reality show.
