Lake region, 9th century. By the shores of rivers that connect the Baltic Sea with passages leading all the way to Byzantium, people from many different tribes have lived and died, waged wars and traded for centuries: Scandinavians, Balts, Finns, and Slavs. Ancient beliefs, legends, and primitive rituals create a captivating atmosphere in which a drama unfolds about Ingigerd, daughter of a k unung, who suddenly loses everything: after the Vikings seize the trading city of Aldeigja and kill her father, the girl—miraculously avoiding captivity—burns with a thirst for revenge and waits for the moment to carry out retribution.

At the same time, a young skald and a rune expert travels with friends on his first sea voyage. Will the paths of the ruler’s daughter and the young oarsman cross?
